monogram

the wind storm that left us without electricity and water for a day and a half on tuesday, also left us with a driveway covered in pine needles. we collected them for creative ideas, and viola, i made a monogram wreath.
we are visiting our dear friends in san luis obispo this weekend, and i do not want to be a guest not bearing gifts. i like the idea of bringing a little "thank you" to friends that have us over for dinner, games, or the weekend. for dinners i like to ask if i can bring a dish, and than actually buy a nice presenters dish which i leave with them to keep.
i thought monogram door decor would be an appropriate gift to give as a "thank you".

so off to work i went. i collected pine needles and arranged them in a clean manner; used wire to stabilize the pine needles and shaped it in a "D"

we liked the bare look of it, but i wanted to add a little depth to it.
i woke up this morning with this idea:

i would use my old anthropologie catalogs and fold fans. the fans evolved more into flowers.

and ta-da! i am happy with the depth it got, and i cant wait to make more!
