the wind storm that left us without electricity and water for a day and a half on tuesday, also left us with a driveway covered in pine needles. we collected them for creative ideas, and viola, i made a monogram wreath.
we are visiting our dear friends in san luis obispo this weekend, and i do not want to be a guest not bearing gifts. i like the idea of bringing a little "thank you" to friends that have us over for dinner, games, or the weekend. for dinners i like to ask if i can bring a dish, and than actually buy a nice presenters dish which i leave with them to keep.
i thought monogram door decor would be an appropriate gift to give as a "thank you".
so off to work i went. i collected pine needles and arranged them in a clean manner; used wire to stabilize the pine needles and shaped it in a "D"
we liked the bare look of it, but i wanted to add a little depth to it.
i woke up this morning with this idea:
i would use my old anthropologie catalogs and fold fans. the fans evolved more into flowers.
and ta-da! i am happy with the depth it got, and i cant wait to make more!

richard avedon
my mom flew to San Francisco to support my Sister while she ran the Nike Womens Marathon. And on Monday my mother and I went to the MOMA where she wanted to see the Richard Avedon exhibit.
I had never heard of Richard Avedon, but I had seen his Photographs. it was a wonderful exhibit and worth seeing.

eric nyquist:the viking
eric is a friend who happens to make amazing art. he is the childhood friend of my husband, who has collected some of erics art. when we moved we even came across a doodle that eric sketched during dustins' graduation ceremony, which dustin has kept in the safe in pristine condition.
the bulls are hanging above our couch
apollo is over our dresser in the bedroom
and we also have a sketch of our hounddog esau as well as a gradution painting in our dinningroom.
these are a few of erics' art work that i really like:
eric was hired by NASA JPL to draw murals for their facility
